JOB DESCRIPTION

Accountability

  1. Meets and reports with either the Technical Director or the President or Vice-President of the Association four times during the term of contract to review progress of targeted athletes being coached and where they need to be throughout the sliding season and in the successive off season.
  2. The coach will participate in a formal job evaluation with the Executive Board.
  3. Averages 2 or more face to face contact days per week with the President or Vice-President of the Association, (year round) OR training and competition contact days exceeding 80 days.
  4. Demonstrated evidence of planned, informal and formal coaching evaluations done by a minimum of the following: athletes, peers, self and appropriate administrators. These evaluations are meant to be useful feedback for the coach.

High Performance Programming

  1. Participate with either the Sport Coordinator or the Executive Board in the design and implementation of target sport strategy within the context of Canada Sport Centre - Pacific IPS requirements.
    1. This will include, development of the athlete development model
    2. Establish criteria both for skeleton athletes aligned with the Canadian Sport Centre – Pacific athlete criteria for level 1, 1a, 2, and 3 level athletes. These criteria must include technical and physiological applications consistent with high performance skeleton athletes for both men and women athletes.
  2. Has a Yearly Training Plan (YTP) as per minimum IPS (Integrated Performance System) guidelines for High Performance athletes.
  3. Has formal evaluation of the athletes a minimum of twice annual and provide evidence
  4. Be the point of contact for communicating the Skeleton training schedule for the winter season with High Performance athletes.
  5. Maintain the safety and usability of the High Performance Skeleton equipment.
  6. Ensure the welfare of the athletes is maintained by ensuring that they are aware of the support structures available to them, and encourage a harmonious team environment by liaison with all team members, and other coaches.
  7. Will attend the appropriate Talent ID camps and actively recruit for them year round with an emphasis on active recruitment of new athletes between spring and fall
  8. Work with the BCBSA administrator to proactively to implement strategies for Skeleton awareness leading to increased revenue & participation with independent companies.

Coaching Development

13. Take part in 2 coach workshops/coaches development seminars in the calendar year.
14. Provide mentorship to the Development Skeleton Coach when sessions overlap in addition to 2 formal evaluations throughout the seasons
      Minimum of 140 face to face contacts with the Skeleton Development Coach per year
15. Assist Development Coach in implementing Skeleton Driving Schools when targeted potential High Performance athletes are involved
             Development of technical and tactical information needed for the athletes to learn
             Development and maintenance of safe sliding procedures for sled 
             Development and maintenance of sled identification and monitoring of run volume for equipment
             Development and maintenance of athlete run volume and skill development
